Step One
Basic tools and parts required - scribe, drill bit, hollow tube, chain, piece of rod, and part - glue and cutters not shown.
Step Two
Using a scribe or needle, poke into the part where you want to locate the chain.
Step Three
This will help keep the drill bit from moving when drilling the hole.
Step Four
Using the appropriate sized drill bit for the piece of rod, drill a hole into the part.
Step Five
Insert the rod into the part, and glue in place.
Step Six
Make sure the rod is appropriately sized, and will fit inside the chain or braided sleeving.
Step Seven
Now to prepare the chain or braided sleeving.
Step Eight
Cut the chain to the appropriate length with the cutters.
Step Nine
The cutting action actually pinches the cut end of the chain. Using the scribe, or another cone shaped tool, unpinch the end, so it can fit over the rod.
Step Ten
This is a personal preference - I'm dressing up the cut end of the chain with a piece of styrene tubing. You can also use heat shrink tube, metal tube, heck - a thin piece of tape wrapped around the end of the chain will work too.
Step Eleven
Add a little glue to the pin (epoxy would work best, or a thick super glue), and push the chain onto the pin.
Step Twelve
Viola! The chain is now attached to the part, and is ready for painting.
