Step One
Basic tools and parts required - scribe, drill bit, stainless steel ball, tweezers, and part - glue is not shown.
Step Two
Using a scribe or needle, poke into the part where you want to locate the stainless steel ball.
Step Three
This will help keep the drill bit from moving when drilling the hole.
Step Four
Using the appropriate sized drill bit for the stainless steel ball (it should be a just a little smaller than the diameter of the stainless steel ball), drill a hole into the part.
Step Five
Using the appropriate sized drill makes sure that the stainless steel ball stays in place.
Step Six
Using the tweezers, pick up the stainless steel ball...
Step Seven
...and place the stainless steel ball into the hole - it should sit above the surface of the part.
Step Eight
Using something sufficiently hard (I use my thumbnail), push the ball into the hole to the desired depth.
Step Nine
Viola! The stainless steel ball is now attached to the part. Because the hole is slightly undersized, the ball shouldn't go anywhere - but to be on the safe side, apply some glue to the backside of the ball/part. Also, as you can see in the pictures, I added the stainless steel ball after painting - less masking required then. If you chamfer the edge of the hole, you may want to drill the holes before painting, but install the stainless steel balls after painting.
